Optimal Transport Conditions for Temperature-Sensitive Cargo

Every type of refrigerated cargo requires specific environmental conditions to maintain its freshness and quality during transit. At MEQY, we carefully manage temperature, humidity levels, and air circulation inside our refrigerated containers to ensure products arrive in excellent condition.

Different products require different storage settings. For example, frozen goods are transported at sub-zero temperatures, while fresh fruits, vegetables, dairy products, and pharmaceuticals each have their own ideal temperature range. Our experienced team helps determine the most suitable transportation conditions based on the type of cargo, ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient cold chain logistics from pickup to final delivery

Temperature

Every type of cargo has an ideal storage temperature that helps maintain its freshness, quality, and safety during transportation. In most cases, products are transported at the lowest safe temperature they can tolerate without experiencing chilling damage or freezing. Selecting the correct temperature is essential to preserving product integrity and ensuring it reaches its destination in excellent condition

Chilling injury

Some tropical and subtropical products are highly sensitive to low temperatures, even when they are not frozen. Exposure to temperatures below their recommended range can cause chilling damage that affects their appearance, texture, and overall quality. For example, bananas may develop brown or darkened skins after being stored too cold. In many cases, these signs of damage only become noticeable once the products return to normal room temperature, making proper temperature control throughout transit essential.

Humidity

Maintaining the right humidity level is essential for preserving the freshness and quality of temperature-sensitive cargo during transportation. At MEQY, our advanced refrigerated containers are equipped with modern humidity control technology that helps minimize moisture loss and protects fresh products from drying out or shrinking. While our systems are designed to reduce excess humidity when required, they cannot add moisture inside the container. Proper humidity management helps ensure your cargo arrives in the best possible condition.

Ventilation

Proper ventilation is essential for protecting refrigerated cargo from the harmful effects of gases such as carbon dioxide and ethylene. Excessive carbon dioxide levels inside the container can affect the quality of products like apples and pears, causing internal discoloration and reducing freshness. Ethylene, a natural gas released by fruits, vegetables, and flowers, supports the ripening process but may negatively impact sensitive products such as leafy greens and other fresh produce.

Packing Refrigerated Cargo

To keep your reefer cargo in the best possible condition throughout its journey, simply follow the steps bellow.

Palletized loads of refrigerated cargo must be stackable up to a height of 2.4 metres.

The material used for packaging must also be able to withstand moisture and allow vertical airflow through boxes in order to maintain the correct temperature.

The corners of boxes must be securely supported by the pallet.

The stack of boxes must be accurately aligned to ensure each box is supported at all four corners.

Maintaining the Ideal Temperature for Refrigerated Cargo

Before starting transportation, it is important to pre-cool your products to the recommended temperature before loading them into a refrigerated container. This helps minimize the effect of external temperature changes and protects your valuable cargo throughout its journey.

At MEQY, our advanced reefer solutions are designed to maintain stable conditions and slow down the natural ageing process of perishable goods, helping extend product freshness and maximize shelf life. While no current technology can completely stop or reverse product ageing, effective temperature control ensures your cargo remains in the best possible condition until it reaches its destination.

Key Factors Affecting Cargo Temperature During Transit

Several important factors influence the temperature and condition of refrigerated goods throughout transportation. At MEQY, we focus on maintaining the right environment to protect temperature-sensitive cargo from origin to destination.

The three main factors that affect product temperature are:

  • External Temperature Exposure: Heat or cold entering the container during loading and unloading operations.
  • Initial Product Temperature: The temperature of the cargo before it is placed inside the refrigerated container.
  • Internal Air Circulation: Proper ventilation within the container to ensure even temperature distribution and maintain cargo quality.

Keep Your Frozen Cargo in Perfect Condition

Transporting frozen goods requires careful handling to preserve their quality from departure to delivery. At MEQY, we understand the importance of maintaining the right temperature throughout the shipping process. Our expertise in frozen cargo transportation ensures your products are handled with precision, using reliable loading practices and efficient logistics. We are committed to providing safe, dependable, and hassle-free frozen cargo solutions, helping your goods arrive in excellent condition every time.

When transporting frozen products, it is crucial that cargo inside the container forms a solid block without spaces between boxes and the walls of the unit. This allows air to freely circulate evenly around the load maintaining a steady temperature for your goods.

The cargo must be pre-frozen to the correct temperature.

Maximum load height should never exceed the red load line of the container.

Packaging must be able to resist moisture and allow for a vertical flow through boxes to maintain the correct temperature.
